August 29th is The Dragonfly Festival at Tudhope Memorial Park in Orillia
(TORONTO, August 24, 2009) - Kids and their families can get outside, have fun and learn from the dragonflies and damselflies about healthy wetlands at The Dragonfly Festival in Orillia, a hands-on, interactive family conservation event sponsored by Ontario Nature, Ontario Power Generation and “Kids for Turtles” Environmental Education.
WHERE: Barnfield Point Recreation Centre at J.B. Tudhope Memorial Park in Orillia – Atherley Road and Highway 12 on the south shore of Lake Couchiching
WHEN: Saturday, August 29, 2009 10:00 am – 3:00 p.m.
- 10 a.m. – Keynote/book signing by Colin Jones, biologist and author of “Dragonflies of Algonquin Park and Ontario”
- 12 p.m. – Brenda Van Ryswyck, Natural Heritage Ecologist for Conservation Halton and accomplished dragonfly photographer
- 2 p.m. – Nature Walk with Chris Evans, leading dragonfly expert
WHAT: Activities, crafts, environmental vendors and more:
- Renowned naturalist Bob Bowles of “Kids for Turtles” Environmental Education will present “Dragonfly 101”
- Collect and identify Dragonflies and Damselflies
- Explore a turtle pond to learn about wetland species like turtles, frogs, birds, dragonflies, damselflies
- Face painting, story-telling, Nature Crafts for Children, Dragonfly luncheon special!
