June 7th - Wildflowers in the City at the Taylor Creek Park
(TORONTO, June 1, 2009) – Join Ontario Nature, Friends of the Don East and Ontario Power Generation (OPG) for “Wildflowers in the City”: an interactive family event to help rejuvenate the Don River. Kids and their families will learn about conservation by planting native wildflowers and removing invasive species along the Don’s banks and surrounding parklands.
WHERE: Taylor Creek Park on Dawes Road, across from Park Vista Drive. Closest Intersection: Victoria Park Avenue and Dawes Road (Dawes Road is south of St Clair Avenue East, north of Danforth Avenue).
WHEN: Sunday, June 7, 2009 10:00 am – 1:00 pm
WHAT: “Dig This!” – Expert-led talks for families and kids to learn about the benefits of planting native wildflowers.
“Stop the Alien Invasion!” – Expert-led instruction on identifying and controlling invasive species.
OPG’s partnership with Ontario Nature is part of Biodiversity 2009, a series of province-wide conservation initiatives. In addition to supporting Ontario Nature, OPG is also working with LEAF (Local Enhancement and Appreciation of Forests) and the Bruce Trail Conservancy to encourage conservation and environmental stewardship. Biodiversity 2009 builds on OPG’s commitment to conserving, sustaining and protecting nature.
