Take Pride in Pickering Community Tree Planting, Pickering ON

Saturday, Oct. 24 was the Ontario Power Generation sponsored “Take Pride in Pickering” tree planting event in Alex Robertson Park. In a few short hours, hundreds of volunteers were able to plant over 600 trees and shrubs along the park’s naturalization area and wildlife corridor on what turned out to be a beautiful day!

Trees for Toonies - October 17, 2009

On Saturday, Oct. 17, urban residents got a tree for a toonie and did their part to protect Ontario’s treasure, the Bruce Trail.  Ontario Power Generation will match the number of trees distributed on October 17th at a future tree planting on a Bruce Trail property – thereby turning each toonie into two trees.

Fall Colours Festival, Kingston ON

On Sunday, Oct. 11 and Monday October 12th, children, families and nature lovers alike got out into nature, hiked the trails, took wagon rides to the sugar bush, built a bird box, and worked up an appetite at this hands-on conservation event sponsored by Cataraqui Region Conservation Authority, Ontario Nature and OPG Biodiversity 2009.

Harvest Festival in High Park, Toronto ON

On Sunday, Oct. 4, the High Park Harvest Festival gave Torontonians an opportunity to get outside and explore the city’s unique urban wilderness at a fun-filled, activity-packed fair for all ages. The event was sponsored by Ontario Nature and Ontario Power Generation.

Bruce Trail Day, October 4

Each Fall, the Bruce Trail Conservancy invites Ontarians to explore the province’s greatest natural treasure and experience the fall colours on Bruce Trail Day.  On Sunday Oct. 4, Bruce Trail Conservancy volunteers were on hand at nine key locations across the Trail to lead guided hikes, allowing visitors to explore Canada’s oldest and longest footpath along the Niagara Escarpment, a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve.

Cawthra Mulock Nature Reserve Conservation Fair, Newmarket ON

On Sunday, Sept. 20 the Cawthra Mulock Nature Reserve in Newmarket played host to a fun-filled, hands-on, activity-packed Conservation Fair. The event was sponsored by Ontario Nature and Ontario Power Generation.

Tommy Thompson Park Butterfly Migration Festival, Toronto ON

On Sunday, Sept. 13 children, families and nature lovers witnessed the natural phenomenon of butterfly migration at the first ever “Butterfly Migration Festival” at Tommy Thompson Park. The hands-on conservation event was sponsored by Toronto Region Conservation, Ontario Nature and OPG Biodiversity 2009.

Dragonfly Festival, Orillia ON

On Saturday, Aug. 29 the dragonflies and damselflies were the stars of  the Dragonfly Festival in Orillia, a hands-on, interactive family conservation event sponsored by Ontario Nature, Ontario Power Generation and “Kids for Turtles” Environmental Education.

Nature Discovery Family Day, London ON

On Sunday, Aug. 23 kids and their families got outside, had fun and learned about nature at Springbank Park at “Nature Discovery Family Day”, a hands-on, interactive family conservation event sponsored by Ontario Nature, Ontario Power Generation, the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority and the City of London.

Summer on the Trail - Darlington Nuclear

Darlington’s Waterfront Trail provided the ideal setting for children, parents and caregivers to explore and learn about nature and the environment during this year’s Tuesdays on the Trail program. With over 1,000 species of plants and animals making the Darlington site their home, our three biodiversity-focused programs – Nutty About Nature (Tuesday, Jul. 7), Dragonfly Hunters (Tuesday, Jul. 14) and Bug World C.S.I. (Tuesday, Aug. 11) – provided the opportunity to learn and experience what the life of a tiny bug, a winged dragonfly or a furry fox might be like on the trail.
