Eight weeks and ten events later, Pickering Nuclear’s 2009 Tuesdays on the Trail and Thursdays in the Park programs have certainly generated rave reviews. Throughout July and August, biodiversity programs were prevalent with a wide variety of free, quality programming in a natural outdoor setting. With community partners such as Toronto Region Conservation Authority, Pickering Museum Village, Scientists in School and Driftwood Theatre, Pickering Nuclear Public Affairs staff entertained and enlightened over 1800 community members this summer alone!
Invasive Species Removal at Rouge Park, Toronto ON
May 24th, 2009 Sponsored By:On Sunday, May 24 OPG and Ontario Nature celebrated Biodiversity Day at Rouge Park. Visitors did some good for nature by clearing harmful invasive plants during a nature walk guided by Rouge Park stewardship staff. Educational displays and fun activities taught them more about the types of invasive plants in Ontario’s diverse ecosystem and what they can do to help get rid of them.
Tommy Thompson Park Spring Bird Festival, Toronto ON
May 23rd, 2009 Sponsored By:On Saturday, May 23, OPG and Ontario Nature partnered with the Toronto Region Conservation Authority to celebrate International Biodiversity Day at Tommy Thompson Park. Over 2,000 visitors came out to enjoy a day for the birds. They got up close and personal with our feathered friends during an early morning bird hike and live bird branding demonstrations. They also helped build bird boxes and heard from the bird experts, including renowned ecologist Dr. Bridget Stutchbury.
